Export Contacts

Export the contacts from a recording or project.

Use this when

You have marked contacts in the viewer and want to save them as a file — to load into a chart plotter, share with a crew member, or archive the spots for a return trip.

Before you start

Open the recording in the viewer and confirm the contacts panel shows at least one contact. The Export Contacts (GPX Waypoints) menu item is greyed out when there are no contacts.

Export contacts as GPX waypoints

  1. Click Export in the viewer toolbar.
  2. Choose Export Contacts (GPX Waypoints).
  3. A save dialog opens pre-filled with contacts.gpx.
  4. Choose a folder and click Save. A confirmation message appears: "Contacts exported".

Each contact becomes a GPX waypoint with:

  • The contact's label (or its classification name if no label is set)
  • The classification and confidence as the waypoint description
  • A red flag symbol (Flag, Red)
  • A timestamp, when available

What you should see

After saving, the viewer toolbar briefly shows "Contacts exported". The file contacts.gpx is in the folder you chose. Open it in Garmin BaseCamp, a chart plotter, or any app that reads GPX waypoints to see each contact as a named waypoint.

If it does not work

  • "Export Contacts (GPX Waypoints)" is greyed out — the recording has no contacts. Add at least one contact in the viewer, then retry.
  • "There are no contacts to export" — the same condition caught at export time. Mark contacts first.
  • Waypoints appear at 0,0 in the GPS receiver — contacts whose coordinates are both zero are excluded from the export. The contacts that appear were marked while GPS lock was unavailable during the original recording. Re-mark them with valid positions.
