Change the Map Style
Pick a base map that works for your environment.
Use this when
The default map style makes it hard to read your track — for example, a road map in a lake-heavy area, or a high-contrast style that clashes with the sonar panel at night.
Before you start
Changing the map style only affects the current recording session. The style you pick is stored in your settings and carries forward to the next recording you open.
Change the map style
- Open a recording with GPS data.
- Click the layers icon (stacked rectangles) in the top-right corner of the map panel.
- A menu opens with the available styles. The current style has a checkmark next to it.
- Click any style to apply it immediately.
Available styles
| Label | Best for |
|---|---|
| Clean Map | Low-clutter overview, minimal road detail |
| Street Map | Urban or marina areas with roads and street names |
| Outdoor Map | Rivers, lakes, elevation contours, and land cover |
| Adaptive Map | Adjusts contrast to the app's light or dark theme |
| Satellite with Labels | Aerial imagery with place names overlaid |
| OpenStreetMap | Community-maintained road and waterway data |
| Satellite | Aerial imagery only, no labels |
| Terrain | Elevation shading and topographic detail |
What you should see
The map tiles update to the selected style within a few seconds. The orange track line and playhead circle remain on top of whatever style is active.
If it does not work
- Tiles stay blank after switching — a network connection is required. Map tiles load from an external provider. Check your connection and try again.
- The style menu does not open — click the layers icon in the top-right corner of the map panel specifically, not the icon in the viewer toolbar.
