What Is HumVision?

A plain overview of HumVision for SAR, dive recovery, and water-rescue operators.

What HumVision is

HumVision is a desktop app for reviewing Humminbird sonar recordings on Windows and macOS. You give it a recording folder from your Humminbird unit — the folder with .DAT, .SON, and .IDX files — and it parses every channel, renders the returns, and gives you a full set of tools to work through the data.

What you can do with it

  • Play back sonar returns on Down Scan, Port Side Imaging, Starboard Side Imaging, and 2D channels.
  • Mark contacts, drop pins, draw ruler measurements, and calculate shadow heights.
  • Overlay GPS tracks on a map and export them as GPX or KML.
  • Generate a georeferenced side-scan mosaic from port and starboard SI channels, then export it as a KMZ for Google Earth or a GeoTIFF for GIS software.
  • Export contacts, bathymetry, ping intensity data, and waypoints as CSV.
  • Share recordings and projects with your team so everyone reviews the same data and sees each other's contacts and annotations in real time.

Who it's for

HumVision is built for SAR, fire-rescue, sheriff's dive, and volunteer water-search operators who need to review Humminbird side-imaging and down-imaging data after a sweep. It is also used by dive recovery teams who need exportable, documented contact evidence.

The three tiers are Pro (single operator, $99 one-time), Team (up to 10 operators, $199/year), and Department (unlimited operators, $499/year). Every tier starts from the same free 30-day trial.

What it is not

  • It does not connect to a live Humminbird unit. It works with recordings you have already copied off an SD card.
  • It does not replace Humminbird's own Sonar Chart Live or AutoChart software. Those record and chart. HumVision reviews.
  • It is not a web app. The recording parser and sonar renderer run locally on your machine; no sonar data leaves your device unless you explicitly share a recording through the Team feature.
  • It does not support sonar formats from other manufacturers.
