Scrub Through a Recording
Move quickly through a long pass to find the interesting section.
Use this when
You need to move quickly through a long pass to find a specific area, rather than playing through it at normal speed.
Before you start
- A recording must be loaded and visible in the viewer.
- The scrub bar sits at the very top of the playback control area, spanning the full width of the sonar canvas.
Scrub to a position
- Click anywhere on the scrub bar (the thin horizontal slider above the time readout) to jump directly to that point in the recording. The sonar image updates immediately.
- Click and drag the scrub handle left or right to move through the recording continuously. The image updates as you drag.
- Release the mouse button to land on that ping. If the recording was playing before you started dragging, it resumes automatically from the new position.
Read the time labels
The scrub bar shows two time labels:
- Left label (highlighted in the primary color) — elapsed time at the current ping.
- Right label (dimmed) — total duration of the recording.
Use these to estimate where in the pass a target was seen. For example, if your crew radioed a contact at the 4-minute mark, drag the handle until the left label reads near 4:00.
Step in precise increments
When you need to land on an exact ping rather than a rough position:
- Click the scrub bar to get close to the right area.
- Use the Arrow Left / Arrow Right keys to step one ping at a time.
- Hold Shift while pressing an arrow key to step 10 pings at a time.
What you should see
As you drag, the sonar canvas redraws at the scrubbed ping. The elapsed time label in the lower left of the scrub bar tracks your position. When you release, the canvas settles on the selected ping.
If it does not work
- Scrub bar is not responding — the recording may still be loading. Wait for the progress indicator to clear, then try again.
- Image does not update while dragging — the scrub bar throttles redraws to one per animation frame. This is normal on very long recordings. Release and re-drag more slowly if needed.
- Playback does not resume after scrubbing — scrubbing only auto-resumes if playback was running when you started the drag. Click Play manually if needed.
