Switch Sonar Channels

Switch between 2D, Down Imaging, Side Imaging, and MEGA channels.

Use this when

A recording contains more than one sonar channel and you want to view a different one — for example, switching from Down Imaging to Side Imaging, or from 455 kHz to 800 kHz.

Before you start

  • A recording must be loaded. Only channels present in that recording appear as tabs.
  • Channel tabs are in the top bar at the top of the viewer window.

Switch to a different channel

  1. Look at the channel tabs in the top bar. Each tab shows a short label such as DI 455, DI 800, MEGA DI, SI Port, SI Stbd, MEGA Port, MEGA Stbd, 2D 83, or 2D 200, depending on what the recording contains.
  2. Click the tab for the channel you want. The sonar canvas redraws immediately with that channel's data.
  3. The scrub bar and playback controls stay in sync. The ping index does not reset when you switch channels.

Switch to Side Imaging

Side Imaging recordings contain two channels: port and starboard. They appear as separate tabs (SI Port and SI Stbd, or MEGA Port and MEGA Stbd for MEGA SI).

  1. Click SI Port to see the left side of the boat's pass.
  2. Click SI Stbd to see the right side.

If you want both sides displayed together, use the Side Imaging mosaic view instead of switching tabs. See the article on mosaic views for details.

What you should see

The active tab is highlighted. The canvas redraws with the selected channel's sonar data. The telemetry strip at the bottom (depth, frequency) updates to reflect the new channel.

If it does not work

  • Only one tab is visible — the recording only contains one channel. There is nothing to switch to.
  • A tab is present but the canvas is blank — that channel's data may be empty or corrupt. Try reopening the recording.
  • Expected channel is missing — HumVision detects channels by frequency, not by filename. If the unit recorded a channel at an unexpected frequency, the tab label may differ from what you expect, but the data is still there.
