Add an Annotation

Drop a text annotation onto the recording.

Use this when

You want to drop a labeled text note onto the recording at a specific position, such as marking a depth change, a good fishing spot, or a piece of debris.

Before you start

Open a recording. Annotations are saved per recording and appear as small diamond markers on the canvas.

Add an annotation

  1. Press A or click the Annotation icon in the left toolbar. The cursor changes to a crosshair.
  2. Click the position on the sonar canvas where you want to place the note.
  3. The Annotation dialog opens.
  4. Choose a Type from the chip grid. Options are: Waypoint, Depth Change, Structure, Good Spot, Shallow Area, Log / Debris, Note.
  5. Type your note text in the Text field.
  6. Click Save.

The tool returns to Cursor automatically after you click.

What you should see

A small diamond marker appears on the canvas at the position you clicked. The text of the annotation is shown next to it (truncated to 24 characters on the canvas). The annotation also appears in the Annotations list panel.

The dialog shows read-only metadata below the type and text fields: Latitude, Longitude, Depth, and Ping number.

If it does not work

  • Crosshair does not appear — confirm a recording is loaded and the Annotation tool is active (highlighted in the toolbar).
  • Annotation marker is not visible on the canvas — check that Show Annotations is turned on in the display controls.
  • Dialog opens but Save does nothing — a type must be selected and text can be empty. If the dialog is still open after clicking Save, check for a network or storage error; this is uncommon in normal use.
