Drop a Contact Pin

Mark a location of interest on the sonar.

Use this when

You want to mark a specific location on the sonar and save it for review or handoff. A contact pin stores the GPS coordinates, depth, and channel frame at the point you click.

Before you start

Open a recording in the viewer. The sonar must have loaded at least one channel so the overlay is active.

Activate the Contact Pin tool

  1. Click the Contact Pin button in the toolbar on the left side of the viewer, or press C.
  2. The cursor changes to indicate the tool is active.

Place the pin

  1. Click the spot on the sonar image you want to mark.
  2. A Contact dialog opens immediately. The GPS coordinates and depth are filled in automatically from the frame you clicked.
  3. Type a label in the Label field to identify this contact.
  4. Click Save to keep the pin, or Cancel to discard it.

After saving, the tool returns to cursor mode. The pin appears on the sonar overlay and on any open GPS map view.

What you should see

A pin icon on the sonar at the point you clicked. The Contact dialog shows the label you entered along with the auto-filled latitude, longitude, depth, and ping number. The contact also appears in the contacts list in the sidebar.

If it does not work

  • Click has no effect — check that the Contact Pin tool is active (the toolbar button should appear highlighted). If the cursor looks like a hand or arrow, press C to re-activate the tool.
  • Dialog opens but GPS shows 0,0 — the recording file may not contain GPS data for that frame. The depth and ping number will still be recorded correctly.
  • Pin does not appear after saving — contacts may be hidden. Look for a toggle in the sidebar that controls contact visibility.
